DGR Version 2 body
Division of Government Research
The Division of Government Research (DGR) was established at UNM in 1946. DGR
was originally part of the Department of Government (Political
Science). DGR used to be an organization that conducted research related to
governmental issues and published associated monographs.
Since 1975, DGR has focused primarily on conducting contract and grant funded
applied research projects and is now part of UNM's Institute for Applied Research Services
(IARS). DGR currently specalizes in providing computer based data
integration, data analysis, and Geographic Information
Systems (GIS) services to government agencies and private
companies within New Mexico and other states. In addition, DGR provides many UNM students
with employment experience useful for their educational and
professional development.
Although most of the projects DGR undertakes are public service oriented, DGR
serves mainly as a consultant for government agencies that fund specific work. DGR is not
a designated government agency responsible for making information publicly available
unless specifically requested to do so by the government agency that is funding a project.
Requests for information are forwarded to the responsible government agency. DGR does not
have the authority or resources to release information without the consent and financial
support of the government agency that has sponsored the work.
This WWW page is presented to provide background information about the
interdisciplinary applied research activities at DGR. It is hoped that this presentation
will be useful to other members of the UNM community, government agencies, and the public
that are conducting similar work or need quick access to information.
All of the data in example graphic pages and maps represent information that is
routinely released by government agencies for public use. Most have already been widely
distributed as part of printed reports or used for special public meetings.
There are also links to the appropriate government agency's WWW facilities
where more public information is available.

Information provided by this WWW page is routinely updated. There
will be many more graphics pages, maps, PDFs, and data available as this resource
develops. Work is also underway to develop and implement interactive data query and
display facilities including GIS applications. Stay tuned!
